It’s been a few months now that I’ve been using the Son & Park beauty water.
Let’s talk a bit about this product. It was created by 2 South Korean makeup artists called Son Dae Sik and Park Tae. It’s supposed to be a toner, makeup remover, and a refreshing ‘cleansing water’…I don’t understand all of this too much. What does it do? Remove my makeup? I don’t think I’m ready to give up my oil cleansers. Tone? But does it have any skin benefits?
This product was just an overall confusion for me, but I love watery toners to apply before my serum and I thought, why not. It has rave reviews and I was head over heels in love with Korean everything.
TEXTURE & SCENT
It’s watery, okay, it’s just water. Literally just water.
It smells good, I have to admit. I really like the smell of this toner/beauty water.
It has a very sleek, minimalist and luxe packaging.
WHAT IT CLAIMS TO DO
Nothing is really specified in this section. However, I guess it’s supposed to act as a micellar water to remove makeup and tone. Apparently this also serves as a great base for makeup.
(Scroll down for the full ingredient list)
Willow bark extract – is it just me or is there no willow bark anywhere in the ingredients list…? And yet they claim that there is willow bark in their ingredient list?
Papaya extract – 17th ingredient, so there isn’t much, but papaya extract has exfoliating properties, but there is little research to back this. Also, this can be a skin sensitiser, so it’s best to stay away.
Lavender water – I’m sorry but where is the lavender water? I see some lavender extract down in the list and also lavender oil higher up and guess what – both are skin aggravating ingredients. What’s going on, Son & Park?
Rose water – this has been getting some negative attention and it’s become slightly controversial, however, I’ve always been a huge fan of rosewater (not oil, water). It’s the second ingredient.
Orange fruit extract – This is the 8th ingredient. Orange fruit extract has great properties when ingested but applied topically on the skin, the methanol in it can have skin aggravating properties…
So nothing to rave about, on the contrary, plenty to complain about sadly.
This should be quick.
It did nothing. I noticed 0 changes. Which is great news since it contains a plethora of skin sensitising ingredients. It contains many oils (grapefruit peel oil, bergamot fruit oil, geranium flower oil, rose flower oil….) that can sensitise your skin and I’m just shook that this exists.
To be fair, these ingredients can POTENTIALLY sensitise your skin. They didn’t do anything to my skin and it did feel refreshing using this and it’s great to remove leftover makeup. It also added a moisture layer but I can do that with any drugstore toner. And do I need to pay that kind of money for a product that contains ingredients which aren’t the best? I would much rather buy the Fresh Rose toner to be honest.
However, there are many people who are fans of this product and that’s great! If this product was €3,50, I would actually rebuy it since it’s a great ‘water’. Cleans your leftover makeup after double cleansing. That’s all it does and I’d be willing to shell out 3 bucks for that, not 30.
