Review: Mario Badescu Seaweed Night Cream

This cream was something I bought without expecting much out of it. I didn’t think I needed a day AND a night cream. One good moisturiser that would double down as both, a day and a night cream, seemed sufficient to me. To be frank, I still only use one cream as my last step day and night…However, I did try to give the Seaweed Cream by Mario Badescu a shot. I had tried their raved product – the Drying Lotion – and loved it. Hence, I decided to give this one a try.

Product Claims

It claims to have a lightweight, oil-free formula, for a dewy complexion in the morning, that doesn’t look greasy. It effectively hydrates without using pore-clogging oils. Sounds like the dream.

Main Ingredients

Seaweed – known for its hydrating, anti-ageing and anti-inflammatory properties. For acne, redness, eczema, and psoriasis, seaweed is a calming agent that provides relief. It builds up the natural skin barrier and is a great anti-ageing agent.

Collagen – provides elasticity to the skin, which you start losing over the years. Collagen production declines as we age and this protein can help the skin look more youthful.

Hyaluronic Acid – aids in synthesising collagen and retaining moisture. It is a super ingredient when it comes to moisture retention.

In short, it provides a moisture boost to your skin, helps with rebuilding the moisture barrier, and soothes troubled skin.

It’s thicker than you think. I was surprised that a ‘lightweight oil-free formula’ was a rich, creamy moisturiser, expecting to see more of a gel-like formula.

Scent and colour

It has a unique smell which didn’t bother me, but I can’t put my finger on it. It is a bit strong but hasn’t bothered anyone I know who has used the cream. It looks mint green and has a slight sheen.

Packaging weight and materials

The jar is quite small and contains less product than I had imagined, but it lasts long as you only need to use a small amount at night. It’s quite handy during travels.

First Impressions

IT FEELS DECADENT. The only thing going through my mind was – “this is NOT a lightweight cream”. However, it is the perfect blanket to envelop all the serums, treatments, essences, and toners used on the skin. It is the ideal binding agent at the end of your skincare routine.

It feels a bit greasy when you put it on but that doesn’t last long; it gets absorbed rather quickly. And yes, it is true – you wake up in the morning with silky-smooth baby skin which is far from being greasy. I was hooked after just one use. It can get a bad name by users complaining that they bought the product expecting a more lightweight finish, but I have no complaints. This cream does exactly what it claims (except the lightweight bit…); I woke up feeling great about myself, with visibly reduced redness and softer skin.

Pairs well with other products?

Extremely well. Apply this product as a last step in your night time routine. I’d advise against using this cream in the morning (you can if you really want, there are no rules), but you may find it a bit thick to put sunscreen on top of.

Long term impressions

I noticed visible improvements by using this product. I used it when my skin was oily, red like a tomato, full of acne scars and cystic pimples and this cream helped calm down the redness and balance out the harsh treatments I was using (10% Benzoyl Peroxide). Although it didn’t directly play a role in improving my cystic acne, it definitely helped with calming down my irritated skin, and providing it with a boost of moisture. It didn’t break me out more than normal, unlike many thick, rich creams out there on the market.

This cream is excellent not only for people with dry skin but for those with oily skin as well. Don’t turn your back to it if your skin over produces sebum – this product is great for all skin types. I used it when I had very oily skin, very dry skin (I was on Accutane) and combination skin now. It works like a charm every time.

Would I recommend this to my friends?

One hundred percent yes! I feel like the price is justified for this brilliant night cream. I have not seen this product get the recognition it deserves. It’s a great cream that improves your skin over a few weeks of usage.

Spread the love

  2. I’m impressed, I must say. Really rarely can i encounter a weblog that’s both educative and entertaining, and let me tell you, you have hit the nail for the head. Your idea is outstanding; the problem is something which there are not enough persons are speaking intelligently about. My business is very happy i found this around my search for something concerning this.

  3. I’m curious to find out what blog system you’re using? I’m having some small security issues with my latest site and I’d like to find something more risk-free. Do you have any recommendations?
