So you want to mix and match some of your serums and don’t know where to start? You’ve come to the right place!
I’m not a dermatologist and these are my personal suggestions. If you’re suffering from acute dermatological problems, I highly advise you to consult a dermatologist before trying out anything for your skin. That being clarified, let’s jump right into it!
RULE 1: THINNEST TO THE THICKEST
If you’re applying your creamiest serum before a watery one, then you need to completely reverse what you’re doing. Start with the most watery serum and then go for the heavier ones.
RULE 2: BE CAREFUL WHILE MIXING SERUMS
Some serums work together like magic, reinforcing the positives of each other. However, some don’t work together at all and instead will punish your skin. I wrote a blog article earlier on the skincare combinations you should avoid. Click here to read it and be more aware. Some serums can be a gift from hell if mixed together and you want your skin glowing, not burning.
RULE 3: IT'S BEST TO KEEP YOUR MORNING SERUM ROUTINE MINIMAL
Don’t go heavy on the serums in the morning. You can use any you’d like, however, many serums are meant to be applied during night time as exposure to the sun can burn your skin. Your skin also repairs itself at night during sleep, so it’s best to apply your cocktail of serums at night. Morning time should be reserved for one serum.
RULE 4: WAIT BETWEEN EACH APPLICATION
Give each serum some time to soak in. Don’t jump into the second one when the first one isn’t even close to being dry.
RULE 5: LOCK IN YOUR SERUMS WITH A MOISTURISER OR OIL
And then wake up with glowing skin! And give your serums some time! Don’t judge a product 1 week after using it – skin takes time to show it’s love to a product. So, be patient.
You’re fixing more than one skin problem, hence, using many serums at once also makes sense. Choose the serums based on what you’re targeting. If you’re targeting a lot, choose a serum that goes for all your problems. If not, tackle them one or 2 at a time.
