A Review of The Ouai Mini Set – Dry Texture Foam, Volume Spray, and Wave Spray

Ouai Dry Texture Foam

Product Claims

It’s meant to give some life to pin-straight, flat hair. Gives volume and grit for an undone look. Not something I would personally go for, to be honest. My hair looks undone naturally and I usually go for products to smoothen and flatten them out.

It’s meant to add volume to your hair. It refreshens and texturises second-day hair.

It looks exactly like shaving foam. It doesn’t transform into a liquid; it stays that way. I don’t mind it at all. It smells nice though.

First Impressions

I applied it on dry hair, starting from the ends, working my way up and also applied some to my roots. I noticed that it did, indeed, give grit to my hair and gave it that undone, full-volume look. I was relieved to see some difference (I don’t know why I was skeptical).

I really liked it the first time. I wondered how long it’d last but I liked the effect. My hair looked like I’d just gotten a nice blow-dry. I also noticed a lift after applying it to my roots but that didn’t last long at all. But hair went back to normal within 10 mins.

Long Term Impressions

I checked my hair a few hours after and the effect was going away. The grit lasted for a long time, but the volume wasn’t the same as before. By the time it was time to come back home after the office, my hair had lost most of the bounce. However, the next morning, my hair still had grit and looked more voluminous than normal 2 days after my shampoo.

Beware, it contains alcohol so it might be drying to your hair if you use it too much.

Would I recommend it to my friends?

I think its meant for specific types of hair – not all. Or that it seems to work for and not at all for others. I saw either rave reviews or people shunning it; rarely anything in between.

It did work for me, but not for very long. But the results right after applying it were quite good. I would recommend it to my friends but also warn them that it’s not long-wearing.

Ouai Volume Spray

Product Claims

Weightless spray that gives more body to your hair. Adds a lift and bounce to your locks. Supposed to be applied to damp hair and then blow dried. You can also use on dry hair and scrunch up. You can also try to spray it with your hair upside down (I did every one of those 3 suggestions made by Jen).

Consistency and smell

Regular watery spray with a good smell. Doesn’t smell like the regular store brands that are far too fruity.

First Impressions

I tried it the very first time on damp hair and then proceeded to blow dry them. To be very honest, I didn’t see a huge difference, I was just desperately trying to find some change. They did, however, seem a lot more manageable. Frizz was lesser than usual. My hair generally has a lot of body, especially after a regular blow dry, so I didn’t see a difference. My hair does smell nicer than usual though. Although I’m sure there are more economical options out there to do that for me.

Long Term Impressions

I gave it another shot the next morning. After blow drying it the night before, I tried applying some on dry hair the next day to see if I get some more volume. I even flipped my head upside down and then applied the product. Maybe I was just trying very hard to see more bounce, but I noticed a small change, which lasted maybe 10 minutes or less.

I gave it another shot after washing my hair and applying it to damp hair and then blow drying it. I know this isn’t meant to calm down the frizz but it does help a lot in my case. If I blow dry my hair normally, my mane probably be 5 times bigger.

Would I recommend it to my friends?

It’s a no for me and a no for my friends. I’ll use the sample I have but I’d rather use other frizz taming products than use a volume spray.

Ouai Wave Spray

Product Claims

This is supposed to be a weightless formula for getting the undone look. It’s supposed to enhance texture and give body. Sounds a lot like the Ouai Dry Texture Foam’s spray version to me. It claims to give beauty waves and a nice bounce to the hair.

Colour and scent

It has a yellowish tint to it and smells exactly like the other Ouai products

First Impressions

I was definitely a bit sceptic about getting wavy hair by just spraying some mist on my hair and scrunching them up.

And my skepticism turned out to be justified. This did nothing. Nada. No change whatsoever. All it did was make may hair a bit sticky and once it dried, it made my hair smell nicer. But like I said above, I’d rather buy a hair perfume than use this to make my hair smell fragrant.

Long Term Impressions

Gave it another shot. It just doesn’t work.

Would I recommend it to my friends?

Not at all. Save your money and spend it on products that actually work!
